Help with power steering hose
 
ok, so it appears that my 1972 c-10 had an 86 305 installed in it. The pressure side power steering hose has a lovely leak in it. I had ordered a hose for the 72 before I realized the difference. Any clues on what i can do to get a hose to fit? Thanks for all the help in advance.

You can take the ends of your old hose and have a hydraulic shop make you a hose

Take the hose off and a good parts place can figure something out using pictures.

Also, if you want to help yourself, Rock auto has good pictures, you could look at all models and years and find one that looks like it. they should all screw on the same way, I don't know why the year and displacement of the engine should matter, they both have flare nut ends.

Does the new hose for a 72 not thread into the pump or sector? The early 70s trucks used flared hose fittings. The newer ones used an oring fitting. You may simply need to buy one for an 86 or so truck. Take your old one with you to match up at the parts store.

Guess I was under the assumption, based on what I've been reading here, that the older steering gear was standard thread and the newer pump was metric!?!

The hose for the 72 doesn't even reach back and around to where the 86 pump needs it to be...

Some aftermarket hoses need to be "adjusted" to fit better. Be careful though and dont crimp it if you do. Does the old one fit well?

the old one is a Frankenstein...not even sure how this guy got it to work in the first place. I should post a picture.

Well the proper hose isnt exactly a great fit either. You have to loop it around to reach the back of the pump. Id post a pic if i had one handy.
