1961 bellhousing question

1 Attachment(s)
I have a chance to buy this "big truck" for very cheap. All I would be interested in would be the bellhousing. Would this work to put a 292 in a 1961 C10, with a 3 speed? It looks like the mounts for the transmission are on the bellhousing? Thanks.

That is the same bell housing I worked with. You can get the rear motor mounts just about anywhere and some of those bell housings will go for pretty good money on ebay if you change your mind and decide not to use it.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The truck is an 8 hour drive from me, so I have not seen it in person. It's a liquidation type situation, I am looking at a few vehicles on the property. Before I say yay or nay, I am just trying to make sure this is the bellhousing I need. Info on what the engine was is not available. Here is a pic of the whole truck.

So, forgive my ignorance, but I am not sure the bellhousing out of a big truck is the same as one out of a c10? In these 2 pictures, looks like the one I am looking at has extra mounting "ears" circled in red, compared to this image I pulled off the internet that came from a c10.

Re: 1961 bellhousing question

if it is a 60-62 and had a 235, 261 or a 270 i6 then it will only bolt to those engines. if it was a v8 bellhousing then it will bolt to the later engs., sbc,bb, 230,250, and 292.
if that truck used a 5 speed the hole where the front input brg cover may be larger(thought I am unsure of this.. someone else may comment on this). that can be remedied though with a machinist and a lathe

If the bellhousing is the same between big truck and c10, I am set. If the bellhousings are somewhat different, what modifications would I need to do to my truck to use the big truck bellhousing?

If that hole in the bellhousing is larger one would get a sleeve made to go between the frt brg retainer and the housing
if it has a SM420 in it: it will be the same size.

looks like a V8 bell to me. the 6cyl ones were a little different shaped and had an inspection cover on the trans side.
