Mystery Nut/Bolt Identification?
Hi all,
Pulled these off of my truck somewhere, and thought enough of it to set them aside. Now I can't remember where they are from or if they're important at all. The only things I've done to the truck recently that I can recall are taking the bed off the frame and putting in new bed wood Any idea where the hell they're from and what they're for? There are two nuts, two bolts, and those two floating square things that are rounded on one side. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/2C...w=w944-h531-no |
Re: Mystery Nut/Bolt Identification?
they dont look like anything ive seen. first. most if not all spoked washers have the spokes on the outside. second. the one bolt is a safety wireable nut, only seen those on driveshaft bolts but not on C/K 10 versions. third. the sqaure nut isnt used on these trucks other then areas that its welded in-place kinda like a "captured nut" but with a weld vs a cage.

Re: Mystery Nut/Bolt Identification?
Thanks I am really puzzled. I thought enough of them to set them aside, but not enough to remember where the hell they came from. The square nuts are slightly rounded on one face, and I seem to remember them being used to hold something up.

Re: Mystery Nut/Bolt Identification?
The washers are internal tooth lock washers or sometimes called star washers. I don't think that they were used on these trucks at all. The square nuts- I think are used somewhere but I can't really remember. You said they float,so they may be a size larger than the bolts. The bolts are just random bolts- can't tell what grade. Clean em up and throw them into your spare hardware bucket. You might need them later for something.
Just a side note about disassembling things. Now that every phone has a camera, it is free to take pictures. I always take pictures of things I have never disassembled so that I can put it back together the same way. And you can take as many as you want- but you will always wish you had taken more. |
Re: Mystery Nut/Bolt Identification?
they seem familiar to me but not from my truck, but maybe from a '70 El Camino i rebuilt 25 years ago. Maybe AC compressor related?

Hey, I came across the internal star washer while parting out a 63. On the wiper switch, behind the bezel.

Re: Mystery Nut/Bolt Identification?
I just wonder what, on the bed / back half of the truck, they could have been used for. I feel like something was hanging from them. One of the floating bed crossmembers? In any case I guess they're not crucial as the truck hasn't fallen apart!
