the bad, then the good
Long story short, after many hours of work by my son and I, there was an accident. Thankfully he wasnt seriously injured.

Lots more work ahead of us. Just so happens this cab has an original radio delete plate in it. Are these things worth anything? just curious how rare they are. |
Re: the bad, then the good
They are all worth something to somebody, the ShortBeds pull a better dollar for the driver, non-enthusiast crowd.
I like a truck that works like a truck. |
Re: the bad, then the good
Glad your son was not hurt to bad! Got to be pretty bad to finish off one of our trucks. It will rise again!
|
Re: the bad, then the good
Glad he wasn't hurt bad,the rest is just metal. The replacement looks like a solid truck
|
Re: the bad, then the good
Very thankful he wasn't hurt to bad, thanks guys. We are stripping everything out of the wrecked cab. Under the dash there are 3 bolts on each side that bolts the dash to the side, bottom of the A pillar. I took all those out thinking i may be able to save the dash area out of the cab. The sides will wiggle back and forth but it seems the top area under the windshield is made together. Does anyone know if this comes apart to get the dash out?

Re: the bad, then the good
Good he wasn't hurt bad, too bad about the truck.
Look on the sale section, the radio deletes are worth a couple bucks. I always thought it would be neat to use one as a hinged cover for an aftermarket radio. |
Re: the bad, then the good
You will have to cut under the dash cover to get it out. Or drill out a million spot welds on the windshield flange.
|
Re: the bad, then the good
ok, thanks clay68. I will look at that

Re: the bad, then the good
Another question. This short bed frame I got, I noticed the cross member that the panhard bar is bolted to is in the frame at an angle. i dont remember the 68 I had 20 years ago being like that. Its mounted with the big factory like rivets so I don't think its been moved? Anyone?
|
Re: the bad, then the good
angle is normal....on long bed frames too
|
Re: the bad, then the good
ok thanks. i figured it had to be with the original rivets in it. just dont remember seeing it before

Good to see this project going again! :chevy:

Re: the bad, then the good
I guess technically the first project should have been heat for the garage. Hahaha

Little more done today. Old floor out. Edges where it mounts cleaned up. Holes for spotwelds drilled. Need some more sheet metal parts before we insert the floor.
|
Re: the bad, then the good
Replacing entire floor is a lot of work, but the ONLY way to go!!!
Carry on!!! |

Last weekend we set the motor in because he was dying to start it. Today we got the floor pan back in. Man these aftermarket body parts are a pain. Of course I’m am NOT a body man. The method I found that’s working best is making relief cuts to areas on one end and get it attached the work your way down to the other end. Looks ok now but who knows when we go to attach front clip and doors. Set the cab on frame for easier access. At some point someone cut 2 different squares into the firewall, we are assuming to get to the tranny bolts?
I can’t even put into words the “welding” that they attempted. LOL so thats next before the cab get moved into position. |
Re: the bad, then the good
if it works as good as it looks you,ll be in good shape. don't start that engine without coolant................

Couldn’t resist. I’m glad I’m way past this point in my welding skills. Lol
