New 1966 C20
 

Hi All,

Been away from this forum for a while doing other things, but I just picked up an all original 1966 C20 yesterday..

I am going to use it as a shop truck and try to keep it as original as possible while making it dependable enough for a daily driver.

Details: C20, 327, 4 Speed w/ Granny Gear & 4.11 gear. Running, driving truck, currently licensed and inspected. The truck is driveable right now, actually drove it yesterday down back roads and on interstate.., It revs pretty high at 70 due to rear gear but drives OK at 60.. Interior in good shape and no rust to speak of.

I would like to add power steering and power brakes as I am going to drive it frequently. My question is it it worth it to convert to Disc or just keep the Drum brakes?? It stops pretty good right now so was just thinking of going to power brakes and keeping the drums..

I really want to add power steering as I have a bum shoulder and although it steers OK for a 66, I would like to add a PS unit.

Any and all info would be appreciated.

Hey Supergas. Nice truck! Most people would say yes to the disc brakes, but I think drums are fine. One thing I would suggest for sure is going with a dual reservoir master cylinder. Good luck and have fun! :ito: :chevy:

I agree on the drum brakes.. I am going to retain them but add the factory or improved power booster, depending on recommendations.

First thing is to get the Power Steering installed..

Drum brakes are great if maintained properly, power drums are even better.

Power steering in this day is a nessesity

Yep, Power Drums are what I am going to do..

Anyone with a build on adding power brakes or part numbers that have been used with good results..??

I would prefer to use AC Delco parts or factory stuff and don't want chrome or anodized..

I make both the steering box adapter plate and a booster bracket that allows you to use any of many many, compatible factory brake boosters. However if you are staying with 4 wheel drums, I recommend the '67-'70 booster and master assembly. Since your truck is a C20, I would go with the same C20 '67-'70 version.

This truck was sold/ traded for a 1964 Olds F85 Post, which has just been finished and is my current Hot Rod :D

Now looking for another similar truck but want :gmc2: :confused:

I agree that power brakes dual master with drums all around is a fine way to go.
