Sound deadening materials
 

Hey Guys
Looking at sound deadening materials which do you recommend?

Can you really tell a difference my truck has no headliner so will not be doing that just the floor and possibly the inside of the doors if that would help

Average cost?

IMO....you can go with the "High Priced Spread" like "Dynomat" or do like I've done on many of my projects & use https://www.amazon.com/Frost-King-FV.../dp/B00H26CPFS on the cheap....

Can also be bought at Lowes, Home Depot etc.

Maybe not as good as the higher priced ones, but it has always quieted down my vehicles....

I got a generic ebay brand and made sure that the material was butyl instead of asphalt. The brand I used is called GT Mat and it was their 70 mil thickness I believe. Pretty easy to install. I cleaned up all my edges using 3M foil tape.

My cab is not completely sealed up as of yet, I have a hole in the firewall open to the cab and no shift boot but I can tell a massive difference from before. I topped it with a vinyl mat.

Though I did not purchase product from them, I did follow their thought process of the CLD Tiles, Mass Loaded Vinyl and Sound Absorber.

Instead of using "Hydrophobic Melamine Foam (HMF)" as the sound absorber, I decided to use the 3M Thinsulate SM600L/SM400L (cost a little more money) and is a better product IMHO.

I have used either lowes or home depot sealer and noticed a huge difference in the cars I have done in the past.

I was going to post a similar thread but since this is going....

How much more difference in sound deadening does adding Door carpet or a headliner? I plan to carpet up the back of the cab as well as I assume every little bit helps... right?

I used the same product as Akuzaspur,

"Noico 80 mil car Sound deadening mat, butyl automotive Sound Deadener, audio Noise Insulation and dampening".

I would suggest getting the metal roller for install. The product was installed throughout my 1988 Suburban, then placed Mass Loaded Vinyl over top, Jute padding, then Mass-Backed carpet to finish it off. Yeah, I know a little over kill, but the Suburban road noise and heat have been greatly reduced.

In the doors, Noico (inner/outer metal), Mass loaded vinyl and SM600L behind door panels. In the ceiling, it got Noico and SM400L under the headliner.

What’s a rough idea of how many square feet of material does it take to cover a high hump floor? Back wall?

I bought 60 sq ft of gtmat 'onyx' which is a butyl material and is 70 mil. I got 25 12x24 sheets and 10 12x12 sheets. I have about 5(?) 12x24 sheets left. I did the inside of the firewall, floor, and back wall of the cab on a low hump truck.

I used Lizard Skin system. Temp Control on the outside firewall, underside of the floor and the underside of the bed. Then used the Sound Control on the inside firewall, inside floor boards and back wall. I have not driven (except around the block) and it does not have any resemblance of exhaust yet. So I cannot testify to how well it functions because EVERYTHING IS LOUD!! LIKE NASCAR LOUD!!

used lizard skin on a few builds. never performed well.
