Another step closer.
I made up the hoses. Now, I just have to find a place in my area to crimp the ends.. |
Re: AC Almost Completed
For those of us who are about to tackle this same chore, can you list what parts you used and where you purchased?
|
Re: AC Almost Completed
ok....here's what I bought with part numbers.
RockAuto Condenser SPECTRA PREMIUM 73642 Evap FOUR SEASONS 54275 Drier/Accum FOUR SEASONS 33204 Amazon Orifice Tube Four Seasons 38635 Ebay Compressor Sanden 508 V-Belt Hose Kit https://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-1...72.m2749.l2649 AC Drier fitting https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-AC-FITT...72.m2749.l2649 Summit Vintage Air Bracket kit 15123-VCB The costs for the hose crimping in my area is $25.00 The total cost to me is $474.61. Not counting MY labor or MY R134 Freon Hope this helps others. |
Re: AC Almost Completed
Nice. I completely rebuilt mine 2 years ago when I converted to R134. I wish I had swapped in a Sanden in place of the H6 though. What color orifice tube did you use? I went with blue based on input from the guys over at ackits.com.
|
Re: AC Almost Completed
I went with the red orifice due to being for r134 so this is a starting point. I liked the .61 orifice size.
I should have the system up & going within the next couple days. I'll post how it works here... |

Hoses connected & pulling a vacuum......hopefully no leaks.....
|
Re: AC Almost Completed
Vacuum system, charged with 2.75 lbs of R134
SUCCESS !!!! Working like a champ & blowing COLD !!! So glad this is over with..... |
Re: AC Almost Completed
Now you just need a q-jet idle stop solenoid and bracket. The solenoid wire ties in with the light green wire on your 2-cavity male/female molded packard 56 connector located about in the middle up high on your firewall. That will kick up the idle about 200-300 RPM whenever the compressor engages since it will pull the motor RPMs down a bit with the AC on.

Re: AC Almost Completed
That is the plan. I have my eye on a couple of them on ebay

Re: AC Almost Completed
Just picked up the evaporator(PART # :TEM 288017), accumulator (PART # :TEM 208533) and blue orifice tube (PART # :TEM 207316) at my local NAPA. They were about the same price as RockAuto after shipping.
Be aware that there are 2 different evaporators available for these trucks, one with a 90* tube and one with a 180* so look at your old one if you have one before you order. |

Re: AC Almost Completed
Thanks.
My 83 has an R4 and I've been hesitant to replace it with another R4 given their reputation for short service life. Think I might try the Sanden route |

I passed it up cause I didn't have any of the original brackets to use. This is one place that sells that kit. https://www.dirtydingo.com/shop/prod...oducts_id=1622 |

BTW: were did you buy the A/C hose? I think I would like to go this route on my 77 K25 because I don't like the boat anchor A6 compressor. just now seen the hose kit. |

I also had to buy a #12 fitting on eBay to connect the hose to the drier/accumulator. The hose kit didn't come with the #12 fitting. https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-AC-FITT...72.m2749.l2649 I had the hoses crimped by a Hydraulic Hose Shop company near me. It cost me $25 to have the 4 fittings done. |
