Tranny Question
 

I am going to replace my 700r4 boat anchor with a turbo 350 and was wondering what kind of kickdown they use? Is it a cable? vaucum? electric what?

they use vacuum to shift, and have a kickdown cable. There will need to be a tee put in the port behind the carbuerator, to go to the vacuum modulator.
Why don't you like your 700? It is a better trans, if it is in good working order.

BTW, you will need to lengthen the driveshaft and change the front yoke for the 350.

I am getting a 350 that is the same length as my 700 the reason I am swapping is the 700 lunched itself yesterday and just can't swing the cost. I thought the yokes were the same on 350 and 700 are you sure they are different? BTW it is an early model 700.

Why on earth would you want to go to a TH350 rather than a 700?

I am pretty sure the 700 uses a 400 style yoke. You might want to check and make sure. You may have to move the trans crossmember forward a little, but the holes should be in the frame for it.

700R4 and TH350 use the same driveshaft yoke.

casey is right. You will have no problems switching the two as there is not enough difference in length and the splines are the same. You will have to move the crossmember to the rear a bit but the bolt hole are there in the frame already. You also have to hook it up to manifold vacuum as jonboy said.

You will have to move it forward like jonboy said. The 700 and 350 trans does not have the bolt in yoke like the 400 you just drop the driveshaft and slide the shaft off the trans. If you have it up on ramps make sure you have a drain pan behind the tailshaft when you do this, make sure you are not laying directly underneath it either.

I will never forget the first time my less than mechanically inclined buddy tried to change his oil. I actually convinced him to do it and told him how but I forgot to tell him not to lay directly under it. I just heard him yell loud enough to wake the dead and he came rolling out of there with his face covered in oil he even got it in his mouth, down his shirt, everywhere, luckily it was not too hot. I had to try so hard to keep from laughing but he probably would have killed me if I had.

Thanks for all the help I have found a local guy here who will build me a 350 with lockup that should hold up to my 350 no problem and best of all its only 600 instead of the 1100 I can find a 700 for. Thanks again I will keep you posted all I have to do know is find the time to get the dam thing out and get him some money to start building the new one. can you guess what I am doing on thanksgiving?

$1100! Damn! I had my 700R4 rebuilt a few years ago for $550.

Aint inflation great? I can get one from Bowtie Overdrives for 900 but after shipping and the hassel of dealing I decided to go local well North Carolina anyway jackson Racing has good prices on their 350's and will take my 700 as a core.

Good used 700r4's go for 450 bucks locally here, and to get one rebuilt your looking at 1200-1500 dollars. I just rebuilt mine myself after calling around. Cost me about 300-400 bucks and I have a like new transmission that has been running strong for 2k miles and shows no signs of slowing down.

About the same here I just have not tackled a 700 before and I am quite sure I broke something major inside it went out with a bang then nothing but reverse.
