97 ABS problems
The ABS on my 97 K1500 has been engaging at low speeds like when I pull up to a stop sign so I pulled the 60a fuse under the hood. Recently I got an Autel MaxiDiag Elite scanner that is supposed to read ABS codes. The scanner works great on my wife's 05 Impala. When hooked up to the Silverado the ABS system doesn't even come up on the scanner menu. On the Autel forum I've been told that the problem is that's what happens when the module isn't powered up, is defective or has a com problem.
Any ideas on how to test the module or if perhaps the ABS isn't supported on the Autel MaxiDiag? Thanks Paul |
A couple of things to do first
sorry you're having problems.

Re: 97 ABS problems
Most likely a wheel speed sensor. Scan to find out which one. I've diagnosed this issue many times. At slow speeds (parking lot) the ABS activates and it feels like the vehicle is not going to stop. It has always been a front sensor. Check your hubs for play while your at it, loose bearings can cause the sensors to read erratically. New hubs come with new sensors.

Re: 97 ABS problems
You have to replace the 60 amp fuse then remove the positive battery lead for a few minutes, then reconnect...
Start engine and drive for a couple minutes then attach scanner... :chevy::chevy::chevy: |

I spent an hour on the phone with an Autel tech trying to get the scanner to work. |
