Z-ing the frame
OK, who has done this? I want some pictures. 1.5 crossmemeber drop is not going to cut it for me at all.
|
what exactly are you trying to accomplish? z-ing will be a lot of work that you don't really need.
|
I'm trying to get the rocker on the pavement. What else would you suggest. I need to be 3 inches lower. There will be a lot of work, BUT..................it is going to be needed.
Everyone is doing a 1.5 inch crossmember drop. Thier A-arms are touching the ground already when aired out. My arms are not even CLOSE to being on the ground when I'm at 0 psi. |
Do you....
have 2 1/2" drop spindles??
|
No.
I have 3" |
I don't see how your 3" from the ground when your body style truck's frame is above the level of the body anyway. you may want to look into a fatman fabrications front crossmember which will allow you to lay body front to rear with the right size notch.

Wow, something isn't right here. |
Pics....
do you have any???
|
I will try to get pics.
My frame is lower than the body. It is lower, trust me. There is not something that is not right, it is simply the fact that I have a 32" tall tire. I will try to get some pics tomorrow. I need to clean the truck off and get some pics for my website, since I have pics on there of every thing else....... |
The A-arms are bottoming out on the crossmember. That's why I cant go lower. I can also NOT lose any of my bag cup, cause then I cannot "untuck" the wheel to turn.

IMHO, if you're running 305/50 20's up front WITH bags... you'll NEVER lay front bumper without BIG $$$ or simply body drop it. |
I've done a lot of body drop stuff, as well as crossmember sectioning, z'ing, etc... My 22's on my NBS Fullsize are 28" or so tall. I used drop spindles and hydraulics to lay it on the ground. Get some smaller tires man, that's going to help a LOT. If you had 245/35's on there, you'd have an extra 6 inches or so.
|
Oh man, no way is there going to be a 245/35. I dont care if I got them free.
I think that I will get about an inch shorter sidewall when I get new tires though. These are the same as the SS Silverado. They are 275/55/20. The SSR has a 295/40 I think it said on the sidewall, but they didnt look that good. Looked like the rim was too wide for the tire. |
Duh!!!!

I didn't see what diameter tires you were running. My tire diameter is 27" on the front. I am running a 17" x 8" wheel with 255/50/ZR17 BFG's. My crossmember lays with this however, to lay rock, I would need a crossmember sectioning or body drop. Hope this helps. Later, FCG

I think you need to cut holes in your hood. That should let you lay rocker, and run your 4wd sized tires:rolleyes:

OK, let's say this. I have a set of 24 inch wheels to put on my truck, but it wont lay out. I need help. Does anyone have pics of thier Z'd frame? Thanks.:flag: |

If you want to run a tall tire in the front, it's going to be hard to get it low. That's what everyone is trying to tell you. You need a shorter tire up front, regardless of the size of rim you plan to run... |
Yeah thats what I'm saying. You could lay your truck out on the super swampers you're running if you want, but it ain't gonna be easy. Get a 275/45 or something. They're cheap as hell and easy to find.
|
A 275/45 is kinda what I was thinking of going with when I got new tires......this is beside the point. I was looking for pictures. This is all I wanted in this post. Not "your tires are too big". I know they are large, and this is why Im doing the work.
|
We just z-ed a 94 model F/S, although I am not sure if there are pics on the site yet. You could go by the shop and check the truck out. I think we did it 3/4" to get it to lay rockers with 22's on a stock floor body drop.
|
What website? And by the way, thanks for a "real" answer.
|
Check the Killer Ridez web site...the addy is on my Sig. The truck is either under the updated links on the home page at the bottom or you can find it under the customer page.......Its a 94 chevy black and silver.......
|
They've got it on there, but no close ups of the frame shot. I can get it done, I just was hoping that I could see a finished product.
