4.3 to 5.7 Van Swap Question
Hey all,
I have a 98 C1500 with a 4.3 that's on its last leg. I dont want to do a 5.3 or 6.0 in it because I have another truck for that. I found a 5.7 out of a 2001 chevy van with 80k miles. From what I read on the forum, the only thing I really need to do is motor mounts, ECU, and wiring harness. Can anyone tell me if the 5.7 out of the van had anything different that I should be taking a closer look at? |
Re: 4.3 to 5.7 Van Swap Question
Probably the airfilter tubing, and I would also look at a larger radiator. I do not know if the fan shroud would be the same as they truck or not. My guess is that it is not the same. The motor mounts from the van may/may not work, but there are plenty in the junkyards or on-line. Good luck with swap. Sounds like good idea.

Re: 4.3 to 5.7 Van Swap Question
Dip stick tubes for the trans and oil stick out and up as well, if you use them they look a little out of place but makes checking fluid a little easier. Also the power steering pump will be remote reservoir and the bracket will not accept a standard pump. With all that said the 4.3 serpentine belt setup should bolt onto the 5.7 and the dip stick tubes can be swapped.

Re: 4.3 to 5.7 Van Swap Question
Not sure that I'd call the remote reserviour power steering a negative thing. It's generally mounted higher on the engine or the surrounding sheet metal for accessibility. Having the fill higher up is nice.
Prolly want to install some SAE J189 power steering hose in place of the original rock hard or jello hose from the reserviour to the pump but otherwise you're in business. |
