SPID is missing
 

Wanted to see if there was anyway i could find out what exactly my truck came with from the factory using the Vin # or what i needed to find that information out and see if there's someone that could make a new look alike SPID for the truck. Thanks for help guys.

If you are lucky there might be a build sheet in the seat springs or taped to the gas tank, or gas tank cardboard.

Information for US built and sold trucks not available through GM until 1976/77.

I found out that it was built in St Louis by the vin decoder and what it came with as far as the engine and transmission, just would like to know alot more.

Like others have said, you pretty well need a build sheet.

But......................if you were well familiar with the truck history, and knew what you were looking at, it's possible to build a SPID with a lot of certainty. Just as an example, if the serial number on the frame matches title/cab, the frame was built a certain way (SBC Vs BBC), and the castings numbers on your long block are consistent with the truck assembled date. Good chance what was installed in your truck is what's in it.

Requires a lot of research and experience, but you'd always have the caveat your SPID may not be accurate.

All the # on the frame and cab etc seem to match the vin # so I'd say its all original, just wanted to see if there's away that i could get a original Spid made for the truck looks like there's a guy that might be able to help me out. Thanks for all the replies and the good info you guys have given.

A good way to build a spid is to look at others and see what option whare available and mach what you have. For instance does your pickup have a chrome frount bumper. If yes it can be added to the spid. And so on with any other options you find your pickup has.

While you can determine V8 vs I6 (but not which V8), unfortunately you can't determine transmission from the VIN.

If it's a Fremont truck (Z in the VIN) we've found them stuck to the front of the bed, trapped behind the cab.

Yep, Jeff does nice work, I can't tell the difference between his work and original, or close enough.

Both mine are Fremont. It was under the bench in the 71, and it's behind the bench in my 72. Never actually read the 72 sheet. They're real brittle at this point, it's pull the seat or shred it.
