Horn has power no sound
 

I replaced the Turn Signal Switch in the the steering column. It’s a non-tilt column. Broken turn signal, original plastic. I plugged everything in and now there is no sound from the horn. I check the power at the horn. 12 Volts when I press the horn button. My horn work before I replaced the switch. Did I burn up the horn? Is the horn 6volt?

The stock horn would be 12 volts. Did you try rapping on the horn with a wrench or something like that while someone holds the horn button down? If the green wire to the horn has power when the horn button is pressed down the horn should honk..... You might also remove the horn mounting bolt and clean the horn bracket and core support where it bolts on. It has to have a good ground there.

Where are you measuring the 12 volts? Using my rule of always look at the last place I worked. I would pull the plug off of the horn relay and use a continuity tester within lead on the black lead in the plug and the other lead to a known good ground. You should not have continuity until you push the horn button. Then you you should have close to zero resistance. If this is not what is happening then I suspect that the horn button is not making the connection to ground.

12vdc at the horn or horn lead? with lead connected to the horn or disconnected?

12vdc is a low for good battery, was it 12vdc exactly or 12.6, 12.8, ??

should check while connected, you can jump the relay with remote start switch if you don't have an assistant..

if voltage drops significantly, check battery, may have drained during other repairs..

bad horn chassis mounting grounds can create weak voltage to horns also..

if you check lead while disconnected may only get surface voltage, basically a false reading while not under load..

if battery voltage is good, 12.8vdc neighborhood, and voltage at the horn is within .5vdc max acceptable drop, likely b/o horn..

was horn working previously right until column repairs or has it been a while since used/tested?

may just be coincidence?
