Window channel
I changed the vertical window channel a while back to stop rattling, but the window frame is digging into it and shredded it. This also hangs the window up, puts stress on the regulator and won't let the window go all the way up.
What am I missing? I left the channel in the truck and used a small metal scraper through the metal channel. Then put some of the black goo on it and pushed it in. What am I doing wrong? Did I just buy something that we're too thick? Any tips would be appreciated |
Re: Window channel
This is what I ran into when I put my new precision division bar felts in. It sounds like maybe you’ve got the same problem.

Re: Window channel
Yeah the doors will have to come back apart. I trimmed the corners on mine with a die grinder. It will take longer to take it apart and put it back together than it will to fix the problem.

Re: Window channel
A local auto glass shop may have the setting tape you need and some non-pickup aftermarket suppliers sell it as well.

Re: Window channel
My glass guy said he doesnt replace the worn rubber anymore because they are hard to find and all different sizes (for different vehicles) now he runs window urethane in the channel effectively gluing the window directly in. Thoughts?

Re: Window channel
Sounds like he’s taking the easy way out to me. Not that it won’t get that job done but what happens if/when the glass needs replacing? Digging out the sealant wouldn’t be fun especially from a vent window.

Re: Window channel
I just did this last week! Here's a hint, go to your local glass shop if they are decent humans they will give you a partial left over tube of urethane. Tear it apart, trim a little off the front of the channel and then glue that sucker back in place. I let it sit overnight then reinstalled everything. Works great now!
