Suburban Gas Tank in a K30 CC

1 Attachment(s)
I ordered a 40 gallon suburban tank to install behind the rear axle in my K30 crew cab.

I looked at some threads with a filler in the bed and modifying the fuel door.

Curious what people are doing for fillers these days.

Headed to go pick up my bed from the painter today.

Thanks,

Filler in the bed = easier to fill. I know guys have made fill tubes to allow using the OE door set-ups but to me that just asks for issues (constant shutting off the flow while filling).

A discrete fill setup off to the side (adjacent to the stake pocket) allows an easier path for the gas flow while not impeding use of the bed floor.

I am not overly excited with a filler door on the bed floor.

Funny you recommend that - I found this last night and like how this lays out.

That's is exactly what I was trying to describe. It gives you vertical fall of the liquid to help keep it away from the dreaded 'splash-back' that shuts the pump nozzle off & keeps it out of the floor area. Paint to match & it's better hidden in plain sight.

*EDIT*
I modded a swb steel floor for a 'through the floor' fill & used the neck & cap from a 67-72 in-cab gas tank since the size was more than adequate & they make a rubber grommet for the exterior sheet metal to seal the inside of the cab off. Of course there are much 'slicker' versions/options available as well.

I did an in floor filler with trap door in a c10 short bed and it was always messy.

Much smarter.

You also might have issues with the shock mounts on a k30. The suburbans, blazers, and the lighter duty trucks all had the shocks on the outside of the frame. The 1-tons moved the shocks inboard. I've heard of folks adding the suburban tank to the c30/k30 trucks, but it often involves some intentional denting of the tank to get enough clearance.

I moved the shocks forward of the rear axle (inside the frame) with a shock mount that sits level with the high side of the frame.

Ive thought about doing a pop up cap inside the stake pocket. Not sure how feasible that is.

That might too much precision when filling up to not drip/dump diesel down the side of my paint.

I feel better about a bed filler with surrounding linex.
