alternator ???
The trucks alternator is wired for a square plug in the back, I have a few newer ones laying arround (rectangle, or flat on top) what do I need to do to convert? Is it worth it? Are there any advantages to the newer models?
Also.... in the alternator wiring harnes section there is a light blue wire, where does it go? what is is for? Thanks in advance |
Going with an internally regulated alternator is a good upgrade. (Alternator with the rectangular plug). Square plug is the older style with the external regulator.
I believe the blue wire you are asking about is the exciter wire from the ignition. It should read voltage with the key on. Here is a link to discussion on upgrading to an internally regulated alternator. Jim http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...tor+and+change |
for 15.00 you can get the conversion kit and not have to cut or modify anything and it eliminates having to modify any wiring at the regulator side.
