alternator ???

The trucks alternator is wired for a square plug in the back, I have a few newer ones laying arround (rectangle, or flat on top) what do I need to do to convert? Is it worth it? Are there any advantages to the newer models?

Also.... in the alternator wiring harnes section there is a light blue wire, where does it go? what is is for?

Thanks in advance

Going with an internally regulated alternator is a good upgrade. (Alternator with the rectangular plug). Square plug is the older style with the external regulator.

I believe the blue wire you are asking about is the exciter wire from the ignition. It should read voltage with the key on.

Here is a link to discussion on upgrading to an internally regulated alternator.

for 15.00 you can get the conversion kit and not have to cut or modify anything and it eliminates having to modify any wiring at the regulator side.
