Alternator pulley not lining up
 

Had to replace my old alternator today as it started making a horrible racket.

Local parts place had a new one in stock and it SEEMED to be identical to my old one. Only when I got the new one installed did I realize the pulley is about 1/4 inch out of alignment towards the rear.

That being said, I don't see any means of adjusting the alternator forward any. With the way it mounts, it's locked it place between two brackets so it can't move forward or backward.

I've never run into this before so not sure what I should do. Do I try another alternator and hope it lines up? Do I get new upper and lower mounts that would allow me to align the pulley (if they even exist)? Do I have a shop shim the pulley for me?

Get another alternator and compare it to this one before you leave the store.

That's for sure my plan for now....just didn't want to spend weeks ordering different alternators only to find out I was doing something wrong. LOL

This is assuming your original alternator was correct.

Go back to store pull pulley off and swap pulleys
