one inch drop coils
 

I have a set of 1 inch drop coils in the front of my 65 c10. I now have the engine installed and most of the front clip and the springs hardly moved at all If I stand on the frame and bounce it they seem really stiff. Will they settle at all once I start driving it? I was planning on installing 3 inch drop in the rear but am afraid the rear will be lower than the front

Drive it a bit and let it settle (if it settles at all), then trim a bit of the front coil spring bit by bit until you get the stance you want. I usually cut the last inch or two off the end of the pigtail.

Most aftermarket spring suppliers sell you a "X Inch Drop" spring. They are guessing since they know nothing about your specific truck. Like if you have a 230 L6/ 3 Spd or an iron 454 V8/Turbo 400. Also they are not able to tell you what the spring rate is. Spring length and spring rate are two entirely different things. Always remember if you shorten a given spring, you are increasing the spring rate.

Here's mine. I did 3" in the back and 1"in the front. The first pic is without modifying the front springs. The second is after I cut about half of the first coil off the front springs. I think it actually lowered the front about 2". Gave the truck a really good look I thought. All the springs were purchased from CPP.

Also the first picture had the 250 6 cylinder 3 speed and the second was with a 283 th350 automatic. I think the 250 is actually heavier but not sure. Hope that all makes sense...

I buy MOOG 1-ton coils, and just keep lopping inches at a time until it sits perfect. :D

3in drop spindles and 3in drop springs. Might look funny since the truck is facing up hill and not on flat land.
