Rolled rear pinion fluid level 14 bolt

For my K5 build I have rolled the rear pinion up and need to determine how high I should fill the fluid ? Typically you would just fill to the top of side plug "fill hole" but with it rolled afraid that will leave the pinion dry.... don't want to put too much in however either ....

The rolling of the gear in the lubricant will disperse it to the pinion bearings. Typically the fluid level is right at the bottom of the axle tubes. If your wheel bearings are lubricated with the differential fluid you will want to keep the level the same on the tubes.

Seems like if I was to keep the level similar to original pinion angle I would need to have fluid level to roughly the top of the tubes

You're going to be overfilling it anyways with the pinion rolled up that high as you rolled the fill hole with it. If you fill to the hole you'll probably end up with over 2 gallons in it as the tubes will fill up completely....I'm thinking you may have oiling problems with it that high regardless of how much you put in. Filling a dry 14 bolt takes between 4 and 5 quarts. Pic of whole vehicle please

You may end up rolling the pinion back down some if I am seeing that correctly from that angle

Re: Rolled rear pinion fluid level 14 bolt

Angle was confirmed with Tom Woods driveshafts before they built my shafts so it should be good. Just need to verify that filling of the tubes doesn't create any adverse effect. I do have all new seals and bearing during re-build

So you had this fully assembled prior to this pic?

This is a new build, but I did mockup everything including driveshafts ect..... before tearing down for powdercoating

I hope you had the full weight of the rig on the frame when you did the mock up. I'm talking body, engine, bumpers, interior, ect. It looks like you will need to run it a little above the center line of the axle tubes and make sure it is vented good.
