question: did you have to do any special wiring or did you use an alternator conversion kit? i should get one of these if that not what i have... lol i dont know since i didnt put the alternator on... i think mine is bad anyway. how much did the alternator cost? i have the conversion kit... i have a int. regulated... do you think that is what i have? but it doesnt work all the time... that one looks nice. hmm...

Chevy Punk 12-31-2003 10:36 PM

How much do you want for your old one? The rebuilt one we put on my truck this summer is making weird noises. I may not need it but I'll keep it in mind

2nd that krue. Conversion kit already ordered.

FRENCHBLUE72 12-31-2003 10:44 PM

Dinnut is your alternator internally regulated or do you still have the black box on the core support??? If it;s internally regulated it will not use the box on the core support.. Need any other help we or I would be glad to answer any ??? Dont wanna jack this thread either ... Sorry mark..

rage'nrat638 12-31-2003 10:51 PM

stock trucks are external regulated....:barf:

the stock alt..put out about 60 amps tops....if your lucky
about 20-30 amps at idle........

chevy punk....that new rebuilt alt...20.00 plus the ride...stocker

this new internal regulated alt. is from a 84 camero w/305
94 amp alt....106 amp. max output.....IT ROCKS

THE CONVERSION KIT I GOT FROM FRANK/ PICKMUP
CHEAP.............

JUST PLUG IT IN AND GO...NO WIRING INVOLVED ...

MAN YOU SHOULD SEE THE WIPERS MOVE ON THE DRY WINDOW
IT'S LIKE A DIFFERENT TRUCK.....
THE 6 MILLON DOLLAR MAN TRUCK

For not a whole lot of money you can rebuild that into a 105 amp single wire.

Here is where you can buy the parts

krue 12-31-2003 11:42 PM

Do you have to have the conversion kit, or can you replace the plug on existing harness and jumper out ext reg?

rage'nrat638 12-31-2003 11:56 PM

no you don't have to have the conversion kit....
just get a new end from the help section at the auto parts store

and make two 4" female spade end wire's and jumper the plug on the external regulator
the outside wire goes to the third one and the forth one goes to the second one....I THINK

RACEDVL KNOWS FOR SURE ON THE JUMPERS

My Blazer has already been converted to single wire, internal regulator. Can I just put in an 84 Camaro 94 amp alt and go?

this alt. use's the stock wiring.....yes you can if somebody has not cut the stock wiring out...
the one wire alt.has one wire running to the battery....

i did not want the one wire because then my alt.gauge would not work...and on my 85 the battery light would stay on

dinnut 01-01-2004 12:53 AM

eh.... i do have an internally regulated alternator. BUT FOR SOME REASON the black box on the firewall appears to still be plugged in. so im running int and ext. regulated alternators

what i was asking if yall usually use this alternator he is talk about to convert to internally regulated... and thought yall might poke a guess at whether or not i have a high ampeage alternator like this one...

i am going to be installing a new (used) front lights harness and properly install the conversion kit like he has. i already have one.

TRUCKSRUS 01-01-2004 01:53 AM

if your running a internal regulated alt. then your external reg. box should not be plugged in:eek:

my guess would be it's not internal.....

they made all kinds of outputs on these alts.
take yours and have it tested to find out what it is:flag:

rage'nrat638 01-01-2004 02:53 AM

better get that regulator deal figured out dinnit....
that could be your electrical problems:eek:

dinnut 01-01-2004 03:30 AM

yeah i probably should get it all figured out. right now im getting another underdash harness and front lights harness so i can put those on the truck i bought a new engine harness and an alternator conversion kit... and im thinking ill buy an alternator like yours ragenrat638. your definitely into your 69 now huh? youre getting the sickness? haha thats cool...

my plug on my alternator is the style of plug for an int. regulated alternator...

bmg 01-01-2004 03:51 AM

i agree dinnut, you must use one or the other. I had both running on mine and both the alt and the ext reg went bad. so i just ended up with a 110amp alt internal reg. and bypassed the one on the rad. core.

dinnut 01-01-2004 03:59 AM

i didnt know it could kill the alternator... im going to be changing the harness soon and while im doing that ill correct all these mistakes the stupid mechanics made b4 me made on this truck ( and believe there are alot)
