Electric Choke Question
 

I recently aquired this truck and noticed the choke isn't closing. It is an Edelbrock 1406. I grabed a hold of the plastic choke cover to adjust it and noticed it is very hot. The engine has not been started in a few days. I went to remove the wire and it jumped an arc and burnt me a little.

Question, Is the choke fried or what could make this be hot to the touch without the engine running. It is a tan wire on the top connector.

it is hooked up wrong. Should only have power when the key is on. It may not be fried , but it may well be.

Like "sixbangr" said it should only have 12v when the key is on . There is a "ing unfused" connection on the fuse box in the cab that most of us have used .
I installed a 5 amp fuse inline just as a precaution.

check the wire that was connected to it see what it does if it was unfused and something happened to the choke it would have fryed it cause it woudlnt let up givin it 12 volts .. If you have acess to a multimeter put it on the amp posistion run the power trough the meter and see how many amps it pulls.

If the choke housing is hot I would say the element is fine. That's how an electric choke works. You just need to get that connected to a switched ignition terminal instead of battery.
