5 or 6 lug preference
I'm going to order a front and back disk brake conversion kit for my 1970C10 which is currently a 6 lug on aftermarket 20 inch rims. Other than having to change my wheels are there any reasons to go to 5 lug over 6 or is it simply a case of personal preference? Thanks

Sorry guys I should have searched this before asking, found lots of info in previous threads. If I could work out how to delete it I would :pty:

Re: 5 or 6 lug preference
No worries, since u asked I kept my (6) lugs on my 68. I purchased some 70 rally’s and was able to find them in 6 lug so I kept it there. If I switch to disc I will reconsider although you can get 6 lug rotors that will fit. It’s all personal choice and money.

Re: 5 or 6 lug preference
One thing to keep in mind is that there are many styles of aftermarket wheels that aren't available in 6 lug. If you plan to change wheels I'd go with a 5 lug setup to open up your aftermarket wheel options. Also, the 6 lug rotors are generally a bit more expensive than 5 lug parts from the same company. However, if you plan to keep your current 6 lug rims you'd be better off using the 6 lug rotors.

Re: 5 or 6 lug preference
I don't know why, but if I had a 67/68 I'd stay with 6-lug but would be inclined to go 5-lug with a 69/70. If I already had wheels I wanted to stay with I'd stay with the lug pattern I had. My '67 project is on a '71 chassis that already has a 4/5 drop with 5-lugs, of course, plus I already have 8" 5-lug steelies. So that's an exception to my rule, even. I'd rather have 6-lug but I'm not changing what I already have

Re: 5 or 6 lug preference
I currently have 6-lug drums both front and rear, pretty sure they're original of course.
I would like to have 5-lug with disks up front. There just seems to be so much more custom wheel choices with 5-lugs from what I've seen. |
Re: 5 or 6 lug preference
No reason to change except for different wheels. 6 lugs are very common in truck world now days, so there are plenty of choices, especially if you like the big wheels like your 20s. For 15s and 17s there us a much greater wheel selection in 5 lug.

Re: 5 or 6 lug preference
I have a '68 C/10 [6-lug], a '71 K/1500 [6-lug], a '67 K/10 and a '72 K/5. They all take 6 lugs on 5.5'' spacing.
I'd be stupid to convert to 5 lug, just to run some chronologically incorrect and [imho] garish looking rims. |
