67 POL Rack and Pinion Steering Shaft
4 Attachment(s)
Having trouble getting steering shaft linkage from stock column to POL rack and pinion on a 67 with stock 250. Notching the frame and cutting the DD on the column are next on the table I suppose to try and reduce angles. The close coupled joints on the rack are my latest attempt. I've tried equal length shafts to get joints apart and same issue. Anyone get one of these in without notching frame?

What is a DD?

That is a whole lot of unsupported and joints. It would scare me for steering. Is this a kit or just something you are trying? Does it come with any Tech Support?

Use 3 joints and a heim joint for a center support. Weld mount for heim joint to the frame.

You got to have a center support bearing. Speedway Motors and many others sell a heim joint that I think is .010" over so the shaft slides thru the heim.
I would do the steering shaft a bit different. I would use a 1" round CRS shaft and then grind both ends to make them DD. I just think it looks better. Then assemble and tighten the set screws making a mark in the shaft. Then disassemble and drill the shaft a bit for the set screws to nest into. Lots of loctite or locking nuts on the set screws. Pic of my Nova. I didn't need the center support. |

POL shows three kits that fit the 67-72 C10, but they are probably just three stages of the same kit. Have you ask them what may be causing the problem you have?
From the pictures, it looks like your problem could be caused if the steering column is too long. Ask POL. |
