Quick window regulator question
My window cranks have about 22.5° slop from up and down direction. Both my cranks have it.. inspection of hardware looks good. Is there normally that much give between rolling up and rolling down? Thanks for help.

Re: Quick window regulator question
Do you mean the windows tilt by 22.5 degrees? I believe that is not normal for them to tilt at all. I suggest remove the inner panel and inspect the window regulator. They are supposed to have the plastic rollers in the tracks. There are certain spots in the track where the roller can be inserted, otherwise they stay in the tracks when the window is rolled up and down.

Re: Quick window regulator question
I'm pretty sure he means the window cranks rotate that much without moving the window. That does seem a bit excessive.

Re: Quick window regulator question
No I am referring to the rotation of the crank handle. The tracks and wheels are all in very good condition with no apparent play of significance. The play seems to be in the crank gears. It has been decades since I have owned a manual window. I cannot recall how much play was in the handle back in the day. I have no problem replacing the regulator but from what I can tell the play in rotation of the window crank handle is normal. I am just looking for confirmation.

Re: Quick window regulator question
I have that much free play in the crank, and my window works fine and I never noticed it before you pointed it out.

Re: Quick window regulator question
If it functions as it should I’d leave it alone

Re: Quick window regulator question
There's no doubt it probably has some wear, but if it still works...it still works
I have a brand new NOS regulator....I'll check to see how much backlash it has Update: 10º-15º backlash before engagement and movement |
Re: Quick window regulator question
Thanks for input. Above info gives me a reasonably good feeling the play in handle is close to normal. The tracks and rollers are clean with no grease and still function very well when the widows is properly controlled. The fuss in the guide tracks is very bad shape and allow window to rack and bind some. If I control window it rolls up and down smoothly. I plan to rebuild the vent windows and replace all rubber and fuss. I think the result will be good.

Re: Quick window regulator question
Maybe mine are worn out but both driver and passenger sides have at least 22 degrees of free movement when changing direction. That's only 1/8 turn, seems reasonable to me.

Re: Quick window regulator question
I installed NOS everything of late. Like post 7, the cranks engage approx. 10°, basically a click.
If it's a driver, then if they aint broke don't fix em? |
