Rear drum Parking brake cable r+r
Need to replace the rear drum e-brake cable. I assume I'll need to disassemble everything to get to the cable. Anyone have any tips or pics before I pull the drum off? Thanks! 68 c10 trailing arm 12 bolt

Re: Rear drum Parking brake cable r+r
The cable snaps into the drum backing plate, and the other end has a spring clips that retains it to the frame bracket.

The conduit fingers that engage the hole on the backing plate is the only tricky part. You have to compress them all at the same time. It takes patience, mauling, cursing, holding your tongue just right, a special tool, or just small hose clamp.

Thanks for the help guys. Good tip on the hose clamp. I have the brake tools for the springs and all. I just didn't want any surprises when I get it in the air.

Easy enough to make a new cable yourself.
Can get new cable anywhere, Ace hardware? Find a 3/8" bolt that has an unthreaded portion and cut two 3/8" long pieces out of it. Drill a hole thru that fits tight to the cable you are using. And most important, use silver solder with the proper flux to secure the nubs onto the cable. Then dip the cable ends in boiling water to remove any remaining flux. Been doing this for years with 100 percent success. |
