Fuel gauge Question
Hoping someone can give me some suggestions on solving my fuel gauge problem. Sometimes it will read half full or empty etc. when i know that it has gas . If i hit on the gauge cluster it will move the needle. So i'm thinking it's not a sending unit issue , but more of a gauge cluster issue ? Any idea what's causing this would be appreciated. Thank you

Re: Fuel gauge Question
The gauge is probably the most reliable bit in the system. Then comes the float in the tank and wiring.

Re: Fuel gauge Question
I had the same problem on my 83. I replaced the sending units in both tanks and still had the problem. I replaced the gauge and problem was fixed. I used aftermarket Spectra brand sending units and the needle on the gas gauge will bounce around when the truck is in motion. I think AC Delco sending units would not do this but they cost about $150 each and the Spectra units were about $50 each. The Spectra units do display the correct fuel level when the truck is not moving, after the needle settles down.
