Need way quieter exhaust now...

I built my exhaust using the Flow Master Delta 44’s in 3”.
The mufflers are under the box, not the cab.
I had the original Flow Master 40 Series in 2 1/2” before on the old engine, which had the mufflers under the cab, and out the sides, just in front of the back tires, and it was way quieter.
I thought the Delta 44’s were gonna be quieter, but aughhhhh...no.

I want quieter exhaust...I can add cutouts if needed.
The wife is not too keen on going for drives when it’s this loud.

Any recommendations?

PS: I used v-bands on the muffler inlets and outlets, so it should be easy peasy to change them out.

I've heard that Dynomax Super Turbo are nice compared to most.

I am enjoying my Magnaflow 11266 mufflers. They are on a Blazer with the top off. I have 3” exhaust.

I thought that I went with 3” exhaust but actually it is 2.5”.

I purposely designed my own exhaust system to place the mufflers further behind the cab on a long bed K10. I also went with Magnaflow in a 4" x 9" (11225, 2.25"). I was amazed at how quiet it was. That was a great idea on the V-bands. I thought of welding those in at the collectors.

Another vote on the Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers. My dually has 1 3/4" long tube Chevelle headers into 3" head pipes w/a H-crossover to the mufflers. I used reducers to go down to 2.5" tailpipes & they exit @ the corners of the bed/bumper.

Where do the pipes exit now? Any exhaust that exits under the truck will rattle your brains out, not to mention when you leave the pavement you look like a helicopter landing.

Back in the seventies there was a guy in The Hat that transplanted a rowdy sb into his 70 Volvo p1800. A true sleeper.
He ran 4 Chrysler Imperial turbos. Mufflers just like the turbo max.
He had room for 4 in a smallish car.
Maybe you do to.

I had the headers made with v-bands as well. (Lemons Headers)

Same place as before...just in front of the rear tires.
-did not want them out the back and passing by the fuel tank.
-did not want down drafts as my back alley is dirt. (I spend enough time cleaning and polishing this thing.)

Easiest way to quiet an exhaust is to add a crossover. Makes a huge difference.

My vote is for the Dyno Max turbos. Biggest you can fit length wise.

I added an H pipe off long tube 2 1/2 out back through MagnaFlows under bed. It's only loud from the back...in cab noise is not bad.

That setup had longer pipes AFTER the muffler.
Short pipes after the muffler are always louder.
Changing the muffler with the same short pipe and what looks like a megaphone tip will change very little, regardless of the muffler choice. You could consider running the pipes over the axle and out the side behind the tires.

I liked my Flowmaster Delta 50 series. They were quiet to mild inside, but let you know on the outside they mean business. The ones on my 70 are real quiet, too quiet, but not sure what Generic brand my friend had put on when he had them done 10 years ago.

I agree with the Dynomax Super turbos. Have the linked set with an H pipe on my sock 350 truck truck for 10 years and ae using them with the newly rebuit small block 400. . Only get really loud is when u stomp on it.

Posts 34-35 for me here. I REALLY dig the setup I have. Barks when I want it to, soft & quiet behind the wheel.

I have Thrush super turbos in 2.5" mounted just behind the cab, tail pipes exit in the stock location behind the rear tires. They are fairly quiet until you mash the pedal. Truck has a mild 402 with 1 3/4 Hedders with 3 inch collectors.

Re: Need way quieter exhaust now...

I've used Flowmaster 40 series on pretty much everything I've ever built. Been using them since they first hit the market and the 40 series was all they made. The difference of running the pipes out the back vs. out the side in front of the tires is a huge difference.

I'm fortunate to have a wife that loves the sound of loud exhaust. ;)

Re: Need way quieter exhaust now...

Do you need 3” pipes? Testing shows until you cross the 600 hp line or so, not any real gain over 2.5”. That will do a lot to reduce the noise level.

On my Camaro I run the 14” case 2.5” DynoMax Super Turbos, and on my trucks I run the 20” case mufflers they used to call the Hemi Turbo muffler. Once again, 2.5” pipe.

I’m a big fan of both. Bit of trivia, the Super Turbo is the old Sonic Turbo that was developed by David Vizard and was THEM performance muffler pre-Flowmaster.

Have a single 3" 70 series big block muffler on my 94, good sound and mild. Many compliments. Installing 3" pipes on my 72 project. Dual 70 series with an X-pipe. Will be a tight fit on the shortbed with all that. Still have to wait and see how it goes. I am expecting pleasing results. Will see when I get to the exhaust install.

Another vote for Dynomax Super Turbo. I had loud Spintec mufflers, and switched to the dynomax. Much better.

4th set of mufflers are dynomax super pro (american made). From now on will use nothing else.
1st set was flowmaster 44 then the 50's and 3rd set was something a muffler shop assured me i would like, but no so much. All were 2.5 inch on a small block chevy with headers.
