I installed this one on my ‘72; fit perfectly.

I had to sawzall the old one out; even after removing all the bolts I couldn’t slide it out.

I found it allows for a way easier job dropping the tranny pan for service. With the factory unit, I had to unbolt and slide the member back to have enough room. This aftermarket part can remain in place while performing service. It does not have and attachment to the top of the frame rail like factory. So if you are concerned about a rail twisting, the added support is no longer there. I've found no issue but I've not worked the truck that hard since install a couple years back.

For sure easier to drop the pan - and makes a LOT of room for an aftermarket exhaust. The stock crossmember didn't leave room for my Magnaflow exhaust.

I have always wondered if the crossmember plays any real structural role other than holding up the transmission, that might be reduced with the aftermarket options that only bolt to the bottom of the frame.

To get my 700r4 transmission pan off, I unbolt the transmission mount, jack up the tail shaft and get a wrench into the pan bolts, use a pump to remove the fluid via the filler tube, and wiggle the empty pan out from the crossmember - the aftermarket crossmember would make that so much easier!

It might, but it's pretty close to the large crossmember that the trailing arms attach to.
