Starting Rust Repair/Difference in Key Parts
Hello All,
Ready to order some rust repair panels. It looks like from reviews Key Parts is currently producing the better parts. Comparing the Key parts Ebay store and prices from Summit. For example, Summit has the lower A pillar piece Part Number: KPT-0849-212R for $18.99. The Key Parts Ebay store has the A pillar listed as Key Parts #0857-212 for $50 plus $11.63 for shipping. What am I missing here? Am I looking at different parts? Open to any other suggestions. I am doing a full floor replacement, which I already have. I will also need outer rockers, one or both A pillars, one or both B pillars, one or both kick panels and a little bit of the toe board on the drivers side. |
Re: Starting Rust Repair/Difference in Key Parts
I can not give direct answer but more of a point to be aware of. It appears most of the stamped parts are manufactured by just a couple of companies. There are many who jobber and place the parts in a catalog as their own. It is definitely buyer beware in this area. I tend to think the bigger suppliers like Auto Metal Direct probably vet out the junk simply because they are not going to risk reputation. The hood I received from them via summit racing was produced by TriPlus out of Taiwan. Skeptical when receive, the hood was as good as any oem part. Perfect fit, nice EDP coating. All I had to do was smooth one sharp corner edge, scuff and paint.

The 0857-212 (Upper image) is a much better and larger version of 0849-212 (Lower image).
0857 (Upper) has the lower door hinge holes with captured nuts. It matches the factory contour of the lower pillar and fender mount. The 0857 also includes the front cab support holes 0849 (Lower) is a simple stamping of the lower pillar area . |
Re: Starting Rust Repair/Difference in Key Parts
I'm starting to order some of these too so I'm super interested. I've been looking at:
https://www.oerparts.com/ https://www.autometaldirect.com/ ...then the regular parts places that probably sell these (or other) brands... |
Re: Starting Rust Repair/Difference in Key Parts
Here is what I dealt with while installing outer rockers on a '72 GMC. Avoid anything made by Dynacorn. The Key Parts rockers I've used since then have fit pretty dang good without a lot of fab work to get them to fit.

Taiwan's better than China anyway. I've got decent parts from LMC.

Re: Starting Rust Repair/Difference in Key Parts
I like tabco parts, some are made in the USA. You would need to call and ask what is USA made still, but I purchased my cab corners and rockers from them, as well as the A pillar section. All fit nicely. Tabco
