Hood Hinge Color?
I pulled the worn hood hinges off my dad's '75 and they look like original. He doesn't remember them ever being replaced (he's owned it since '76). They are painted black. The truck has had resprays (black truck), so I can't say for sure that the hinges were always black and not the dark gray phosphate color you see on some parts and bolts.
I picked up a pair of new GM hinges (stamped Taiwan 6262007, 6262008) and they are black (appears to be EPD paint). All signs point to the correct color being black, but I'm not totally convinced and wonder if the original hinges in '75 were phosphate gray. Any experts in the house? |
Re: Hood Hinge Color?
I found a pair of GM NOS hinges for my square back in '09. They were in GM packaging and were the gray color you mentioned.

Re: Hood Hinge Color?
I bought my zinc phosphate from here. Main issue is getting a proper size pan in which to heat them up. But it's doable.

Re: Hood Hinge Color?
I am betting on gray but non painted, kind of gray metal. in the early years I use hate the hinges not matching the inner fenders they all use to rust very fast. But the replacement hinges depending on where they were from and what deal would come black sometimes. spring are none painted. I kind of like the gray now adays would use satin clear to seal them from the air and water. If used, you want to lay it on the dryer side light layers then wetter side.

Re: Hood Hinge Color?
Keep them greased at the riveted pins both side of the hinge brace for the pair every 4 to 6 months lightly deep into the riveted. And you will never have trouble opening or closing the hood.
