Headers and or manifolds exhaust exit location

Truck is a 1964 C10 Long step lowered. Running 1969 350 and 700r4. Engine is located in the rear position and i have done the 1978 crossmember swap. I have the long tube headers and of course they have clearance issues. I am wanting to run the shorty headers and or smoothed Corvette manifolds with the bigger 2.5" collector. I have been reading all of the headers FAQ's and was wondering if I will have issues with the ones that are straight down, will they come in contact with the crossmember or should i be looking for the ones that exit more to the rear.

I run the Dorman reproduction 2.5" rams horns on my 64 C10, with the center dump pointing straight down on each side. Works mint - no issues.

I was stuck deciding if I wanted headers or manifolds. At first I had hooker manifolds but it wouldn’t clear the transmission x member. Ram horns work perfectly and no issues with running exhaust.

Not sure about “rear” position? Mine had the I6 and thats where the mounts stayed. I think the V8 trucks had them further forward so maybe thats what you mean. 2.5 rama horn manifolds work fine on mine. I tried “truck” manifolds that sweep back and those didnt work. Straight down is key

Re: Headers and or manifolds exhaust exit location

For the 63-66 trucks, the “rear position” is not applicable. The 230 and 250 inline 6 and 283 and 327 v8s used the same mounting location and frame stands. The 292 of course, had just the different passenger side mount. It wasn’t until the 67-72 trucks where the v8s were moved forward on the frame to allow more clearance between the engine and firewall.

For 63-66 v8s, the center dump manifolds are correct and will have no problems fitting up. If you have moved the engine forward from stock, then you may have some fitment issues
