Antenna Ground Ring

Hi Fellows,
I am wondering if anyone has run across a similar problem where their antenna has developed a wiggle.

My 72 C20 has a fixed mast antenna located in the factory hole (right side of the wiper cowl near the pass door). I removed the cowl and found there's a rectangular soft metal "ground ring" under the sheet metal as part of the mounting bracket.

The problem is that my ground ring developed a crack so it cannot keep the antenna mounted rigidly to the cowl. I haven't been able to find this part reproduced separately, so I would need to buy a whole new antenna kit.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Was there any way to fix the problem without replacing he entire antenna?

thanks.

This is where photos could help a lot. Not only of the inside and the ring but the outside so those in the know can tell if it is a "Genuine GM" factory style antenna or aftermarket.

I haven't had an issue on my 71 and am sure I have the original antenna but on some other rigs have had problems where someone replaced a broken original antenna with an aftermarket antenna that almost fit but almost close enough only counts in horseshoes and hand gernades.

Thanks, I'll grab a few photos. I'm almost certain its not the factory antenna, but a period replacement.

Going to be hard to recommend a fix on an old aftermarket part that may not be common. Maybe with pics? Here are two replacements that are original reproductions. I have the fixed mast one and it is just like an original. Have talked to others that have used the telescopic version and they said the same.
Fixed mast https://classicparts.com/1967-72-ant...tationary-mast
Telescopic mast https://classicparts.com/1967-72-antenna-telescopic
Unfortunately the price has almost doubled since mine was purchased.

Sorry for the delay... I figured out how to add photos to the gallery and finally figured out how to add them to this post (see subsequent posts below).

The photos show the base/mount of the antenna and the cracked ground ring (rectangular metal object).

If you have one that you are willing to part with, then I am willing to buy it and pay shipping.

Thank you very much!

I'll take a look the next time I'm up at the shop. Original antenna was an AM telescoping antenna and the lead broke off the main body. I replaced it with a fixed mast AM/FM aftermarket antenna and I don't plan on ever going back to the original style.

FYI, the weather just turned to crap here today. My shop is not at my house and not heated so it may be a few days until I get up there to look for the part. Just wanted you to know I'm not blowing you off.

I put a reproduction FM (fixed mast) antenna on my 69. Works just fine and fit just fine. I got mine from National Parts Depot. The grommet attached where the cable goes through the hole in the body fit was very tight but I suppose that is a good thing. The cable was a longer than needed so you have to coil the excess up under the dash and tie it down. Better than too short!

This is the one I used: https://www.npdlink.com/product/radi...1969&year=1969

It fits the slope of the cowl's mounting hole. Antenna sits perfectly vertical when installed.
