Did new door latches solve anything?
Hello all,
1989 v2500 After paint I installed new weather stripping and Like 99% of all weather stripping it is to stiff. My doors shut decent before,, not perfect, but now have to be slammed with follow through. I readjusted, they actually sit a little high but still suck to close. My latches operate as designed but are ~35 years old. Has anyone installed the new latched,, like from brothers trucks and noticed any appreciable latching qualities? Thanks in advance Chris |

I'm curious too. I did the same, new seals, and really have to slam to fully close.

Re: Did new door latches solve anything?
It will take a good year or two to get the doors to close better, the weather stripping needs to get compressed. it will be fine. I used all my old hardware on my 79 build, close fine now

Re: Did new door latches solve anything?
I did all new seals on mine when I did paint. Definitely takes quite a while for them to break in. The other key thing is make sure you have the bushing on the door striker, I did the very effective piece of PEX pipe as a bushing, makes a huge difference in the ease of door closing.

Re: Did new door latches solve anything?
Thanks for the replies,,
I get the waiting,,, but that is a band aid. I found NOS barn door weather stripping and it is noticeably softer, more pliable and the thinner. Night and day difference. My wife drives an 2002 burb, here door weather stripping is defiantly softer than my aftermarket. I went to the junk yard yesterday and pulled a complete door stripping from an 02 denali. I am going to remove my aftermarket stripping, adjust the door as best i can and install the newer OEM stuff. If it works better, I am hoping to purchase the newer stuff OE. I buy pvc/rubber for other businesses and companies like Trimflex make/sell generic weather stripping.. I believe all of these retailer are just buying off the self stuff, cutting it to lenght and selling it as a replacement. Here is an example, https://www.camperid.com/ap-products...437871059.html |
Re: Did new door latches solve anything?
I think Precision sell stuff just like this,, NOT a GM spec

Re: Did new door latches solve anything?
Not sure if yours still has the plastic bushing around the striker bolt but simply replacing that made a big difference in how the doors on my 75 C10 and 84 CUCV seal up.

The doors shut ok, I notice it is the rubber compressing near the hinges causing the most issue... I can hear feel the resistance before the door comes close to reaching the stricker |
Re: Did new door latches solve anything?
Did you leave a space where the rubber meets up on the rocker panel lip ? I’ve seen people make everything nice and tight and then have trouble closing the door .
