72 Chevy K20 SM 465 throwout bearing
Do I need a long or short throwout bearing? Researched but seem to get conflicting info. I have compared the diaphragm pressure plate to the HD 3 finger which I'm using. The 3 finger plate is definitely taller than the daiphragm plate. I figure i need the short throwout bearing because of the heavy duty clutch being taller. All replies appreciated.

Well, I'm using the Borg and Beck 3 finger clutch, no diaphragm. problem solved. Found a post on Chevy Talk that says use long one for flat diaphragm and short one for raised finger diaphragm and 3 finger clutch.

Re: 72 Chevy K20 SM 465 throwout bearing
The three finger was used originally. The diaphragm pressure plate clutches were common beginning in the late '70's.
According to the parts books, T.O. bearing 908244 was used up to at least 1984 even on the newer style pressure plate. |

Re: 72 Chevy K20 SM 465 throwout bearing
The page with that info for 1971-72 "400" is missing, but for 1969-70 396, they list the 908244 T.O bearing.
