292 4wd crossmemeber image
1 Attachment(s)
Some time ago there was a discussion on 4x4's with 292 sixes using a unique cross member. As I was rearranging my piles yesterday, I dug out a sample of both. You can see the 292 version (on top) has a z shape to it that positions the RH frame perch forward (left in the image), as compared to the V8 version (on the bottom). My current assumption is the 250 uses the V8 crossmember with the mounts moved, although I have never seen a 250 powered 4x4 in person to prove this out. This should be good for both 1/2 and regular 3/4 tons as they use the same frame for 4x4. Anyone have a heavy frame K20 or a K30 4x4 with a 292 so we can get a look at those crossmembers?
These are quite rare (it took me 2 years to find one), and I know Backpayne was looking for a looong time. |

I had a blazer that originally had a 250. Someone eventually put a 292 in it and had to hack up the crossmember to make it fit. I didn't get a great look at it but the 250 crossmember looked the same as the V8 crossmembers.
