Big Block Oil Pan
2 Attachment(s)
I am working on a 1968 Chevy truck that came factory with a 396. The 396 is coming out for a rebuild and another big block will be going in to keep the truck going in the meantime. The current oil pan that came factory on the truck looks like a car pan, similar to what you would find in a Chevelle, Camaro or Caprice. I have an extra oil pan from a 454 out of a late 70's Chevy pickup but it has a bigger sump. Does anyone know if this style of oil pan will fit in a 68? I was afraid that there might be some interference with the crossmember. I attached pictures of each style of oil pan. Thanks

Re: Big Block Oil Pan
If that actually was in a 2WD BB square body then I don't see why it wouldn't fit. The front suspension is interchangeable. But that sump looks really big to me too.
That looks more like a marine or maybe big truck pan to me. |
Re: Big Block Oil Pan
Thanks for your reply. The bigger pan was in a late 70's 1 ton 2 wheel drive Chevy pickup 454.

This is the Pan I used on the 454 I put in my 1970 1/2 ton Short Bed back in 2004, it worked fine, no problem. Good Luck on your Build

Re: Big Block Oil Pan
Maybe someone could snap a picture of their current big block in their 67-72 pick (wouldn't matter which oil pan) to give a reference???

Re: Big Block Oil Pan
The oil pan in post 4 looks exactly like the unit you are asking about....

Re: Big Block Oil Pan
Thanks for the replies and help everyone. We decided to find another car style oil pan for this project.
