Place to buy a Highlander plaid bench cover
My OCD is getting the best of me and I want to change my embossed parchment seat to the plain with plaid inserts. I have searched here but the info seems a bit dated so I thought I would ask. I found the place to purchase the plaid material and a local upholsterer quoted me $1400 to make and install. That might be the going rate but I thought I would check. I did find one that was @600 for just the cover with plaid but it had embossed center and sides.
Any leads or references where to look. |

You can believe me if you want, but you don't have to
'Original' Plaid seats had scrolls in the center only No scrolls at outer edges Here is a picture of both sides of an original This is also shown in several areas of The Highlander thread |

Re: Place to buy a Highlander plaid bench cover
Tom K is great to deal with, I bought a few items from him when I lived in AZ. If he has them or can get them, that's where I'd go.
Many years ago, I bought a Highlander cover from SMS and had them make it with the center scrollwork that Eric mentions (the early aftermarket highlander covers had no scrolling on them). SMS' site shows that they carry them, but price is $0.00 so not sure what's going on - they may be out of the plaid business - and I've heard a few concerns expressed about how long it took to get them, but that's all dated info - you will probably need to give them a call if interested in ordering from them. Am assuming you've seen this one? Complete avocado bench from JQ-72 - but note it has no scrolling. Southwest Classics used to carry them, but I no longer see them on their website - might be worth a call to see if they have any leftovers though. Hope that helps. |
Re: Place to buy a Highlander plaid bench cover
Got my blue highlander fabric from SMS a few years ago. Had to wait well over 6 months for it. They responded when I called over this time. So I waited. As far as I know they were the only ones reproducing the factory correct pattern. Seems like I got a good deal with the seat I had made with the price you are getting for a standard seat cover. I paid 2K local to a recommended person and provided all the fabric for my custom seat. Seats can be seen in my thread. A truck at the shop next door has a plaid seat material, done by the same shop. It is different than mine. No idea where SMS stands now? Cannot imagine the wait time for a seat cover would be? Worse or better? They answered the phone every time I called though.

Re: Place to buy a Highlander plaid bench cover
I found this guy back in my home state. He doesn't make the true highlander reproductions with the scroll work pattern in the vinyl but a bench in parchment with green plaid is $700.

Re: Place to buy a Highlander plaid bench cover
Did you decide against the carsinc highlander plaid seat cover that BB72 linked? It has the correct scrollwork and is $459. Just curious - noted you mentioend you emailed back and forth with them, wondered what your impression was. It looks like the only correct cover on the market, except maybe SMS.

We are finishing sewing seat cover. In stock in one week. I decided on the one for Sams as he has a great reputation and lots of pics of his work. It isnt the scrollwork one but 90 percent of the car enthusiast crowd probably cannot tell you that it isn't like OEM.Sam said they had ordered material from SMS in the past and that it might be several months before they had it is stock or was shipped. |
Re: Place to buy a Highlander plaid bench cover
Thanks IT - agree sometimes it’s just nice to have something made by a shop that has a good reputation and, as importantly, you can pick the phone and have a conversation with (a human). I think the plaid will look really nice in your truck.

Re: Place to buy a Highlander plaid bench cover
I will echo what Larry and Joe said. CARS1NC is very good.
I was Truck World only forever because of the exceptional quality until they hit their rough patch and using them became impractical. We have since gotten two custom cloth (Z62) seat covers from CARS1NC and have been very pleased. Highly recommend. NOS material, reasonable lead time, reasonable cost. |

Re: Place to buy a Highlander plaid bench cover
I'm looking for the white/orange cover. The cars inc lists blue, gray, green, and saddle. would saddle be the orange?
