Sanden "mini" compressor custom lines? w/Vintage Air?
1 Attachment(s)
Does anyone know if custom lines are required on Sanden SD7B10 "mini" low mount compressor when using vintage air? (Gen 4) Why and what lines?
I was told this but cannot understand why or what lines specifically need to be "custom" made. And what lines I cannot use in the vintage air kit, or what to use. Confused. It looks like I should be able to use everything in the kit though.. The SD7B10 mini compressor fitting on top is a -8 and -10 tube O-fitting, so isn't that the same connection as what is in the vintage air lines? Everything in the vintage air instructions mentions the same tube sizes. https://vintageair.com/content/751171.pdf This is related to the older revived thread about the dirty dingo low mount AC bracket kit which is great, and uses this smaller compressor https://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vbo....php?p=7731654 |
Re: Sanden "mini" compressor custom lines? w/Vintage Air?
Have used the Sanden compressors multiple times with Vintage Air units. Never had a problem as VA systems use the standard -6, -8, and -10 hoses & fittings. I don't use the VA hose kits and buy my hose & fittings from Cold Hose https://coldhose.com/ .
Helpful hint: make sure the fittings and hose are from the same manufacturer. Have had issues with leaks when mixing and matching fittings from one vendor and hose from another. |
Re: Sanden "mini" compressor custom lines? w/Vintage Air?
That's a big help, thank you! I won't worry about it yet, since I'm just in the mockup stages of my build, cab and firewall holes, and wire harness, before body/paint.
From what I could tell looking at all the parts in the kit, it was likely the hose part of the lines that might need to be custom made for length, due to the compressor being lower mounted/farther away, compared to a high mount. Contacted Vintage Air support, (surprised they were open today) and I have the MOD hose kit, which provides extra hose and one end isn't crimped, allowing custom fitment. So FYI if anyone uses the low mount compressor, w/vintage air, get the MOD hose kit. |

I made custom lines for mine mainly because I wanted it all neat and compact.
The suction line is a hard line, bent and mated to the hose. I also used the reduced barrier hose and fittings. It's much smaller in diameter than the standard hose. My buddy has the crimping tool for the lines. I didn't use any of the hoses that came with the VA kit. The ports on my compressor are different from the ones you show in your photo. This is after it was finished. The compressor is almost completely out of sight. Attachment 2442536 |

I made mine also (87 V20 with Sanden), bought the parts at Genuine Parts Co./NAPA.

I made mine also. It looks similar to yours. VA has a kit for LS, but it didn't match where I had my compressor mounted if I recall.
I think I just bought the hose and fitting and I had a crimping tool, so it was relatively easy. |

I used VA EZ-Clip system on my 70 K10 build. The lines are smaller and easier to work with. I like it much better then bead lock and you can do it yourself in your own garage. I wouldn't use anything else. You can check in my build thread.
