Door window frame tight at front
 

Tried to attach photos, but it wouldn’t let me. Something about a security token, and I tried logging out and back in.

I have my gaps (approx 3/16”) and body lines looking reasonably good for a first look. I even leveled the truck side by side using a laser level, and both doors’ body lines are at the exact same level compared to each other. All looks good. The issue is that my passenger door window frame is very tight along the front angle and at the top front corner. The driver’s side looks good, if anything, wider than I’d prefer. What is the best way to open the right one? I feel the rest of the door is placed well. If I lower the door, my body lines get off. If I slide it back, the rear gap tightens. I measured the front edge of the door to the rear of the cab door gap, and the two sides are the same, so sliding the door back would make the two sides different.

This is a 67 truck with original doors, so perhaps they hadn’t refined them at this point. Thanks.

UPDATE: I’ve convinced myself after using a contour gauge, that the A pillars are shaped slightly differently. The inner flat area along the door’s front edge is angled differently making one have the better gap. The passenger one angles slightly toward the door so that the gap gets tighter on that angled window frame as the door is shut. I’ll need to tweak the passenger A pillar.

Usually the security token message means your photo is too large. Try reducing the resolution of the photo..

The driver's side door window frame on my Burban is not attached to the door in the correct location. It needs to have the welds cut and the frame repositioned to match the A-pillar. Unfortunately I didn't realized this was the problem until after painting. :dohh: So I've gone with it was good enough for GM in, 67 it's good enough for me. :lol:

Thanks, that’s helpful, but mine is tight all the way up the angle. I could still probably tweak the door, but the pillar is the real issue.

That sounds like a tough fix... wish I could help but I don't have a clue.

I would try a hydraulic ram to try to push the windshield frame out but would probably cause myself more problems! If you find a solution be sure to let us know.

I think I can slice the inside of the door frame near the seal and tap the pillar’s flat area there to better match the driver side’s. That whole flat area along the angle of the door frame points more rearward, closing the gap. The driver side has a sharper bend, angling that flat area less rearward. It’s a factory thing with the stamping. No way the gap was ever good there.

The General wasn’t concerned with door/panel gaps…
