puzzled?

Engine is missing or sounds an acts like a burnt valve? Compression test shows 120 all cylinders, timing is good, plugs good, new plug wires, seems to smoth out after take off? I hear a popping noise when taking off too, sounds like it's coming from exhaust system. Vacuum gauge shows a constant bounce between 15-20 at idle. I removed intake, installed new gaskets cking for a good seal with a scope all ok. Vacuum gauge still bounces and still missing. Any suggestions?

I would be looking for a broken valve spring or a worn cam lobe.

i'd recheck the plug wires for good contact in the cap as well as on the plugs

I remember not to long ago someone else was complaining about popping out of exhaust, turns out he had a busted Valve spring.

I'd go withthe bad valve spring too, since I just had this happen to me about 3 -4 months ago. Replaced the bad spring and pushrod that was bent , and everything seems good no backfire or misses.

Don't forget to check exhaust manifold for cracks.
