Small block engine stands for a 454?
Is it possible to use small block engine stands with a 454? I believe that is what was on it when I pulled it. Is it ok to use these, or do I need the big block towers? I know they're expensive as hell.

i know that the small and big block towers are different.
i know that you can put a small block on big block stands but i am not sure about the big block on the small block stands. when we put the small block on the big block stands, it seemed to increase the clearance around the exhaust manifold |
I'm using the small block motor mounts and stands in my 69 K20 that now has a 454 in it.

motor mounts
Yukon Jack, did you move the motor mounts forward so the firewall cleared the valvecovers, do you have a body lift so they cleared or? I am getting ready to do the same, but I don't have a body lift. I thought about moving everything forward. Brian

I think the 4X4's and 2wd's are different. Since there never was an option of a BBC in a 4X4. All you have are small block stands. I would think you could use them, but they are much smaller than the big block ones. Might bent if your engine has much umf. Just a thought

I think they will work but the BB manifolds will not. You will have to use headers.

John is right. The engine bolts right to the small block stands. The problem is exhaust manifold clearance.
See the dished area in the picture below on a big block stand. It's there for manifold clearance. I tried to do a big block on small block mounts once and could never find a header or manifold that would clear. |
