how can i tell if my knockouts for alignment have been "knockedout"
i have a 97 K1500. took it to get an alignment and was told it still had the factory kit in it. this truck has 177,000 miles on it. i bought it at 165,000. While performing a brake job i took a look and looked to me that the cam blots were allready installed. they look like the same thing that i have seen on cars with struts( bolts with off set washers). was i lied to? need some help there is a diffrence of about $90 if they are already in there.
Thanks in Adv. Seth |
Alignment cams!
Seth,
I sold suspension kits for newer chevys for a long time and I know the alignment issues pretty well. If there are offset washers attached to the upper control arm mounting bolts (at the frame mount of course), then cam-bolts have already been installed. The bolts have a D shaped cross section and the washers are shaped like an oval. Installing these cam-bolts is generally required when re-aligning the truck, and since it has 175K miles, I would assume it's been aligned before! Good luck, maybe try another shop (I've had good luck with sears and they're cheap, or try Fourwheel parts performance centers). |
thanks i took my truck to another shop and they said that the bolts were there but i needed to knock out the stampings my self or pay them about $120 + alignment to do it.
