yes

TIMSPEED 03-05-2004 05:49 PM

ok...it's CUT, and I don't remember EVER cutting it, so HOPEFULLY when I replace it today, it will fix some of my small electrical problems....

PHOENIX 03-05-2004 07:38 PM

hahaha, I know. I was just drawing that arrow to show that it connects to the back of that head.

bigblock73 03-05-2004 08:22 PM

Is that cork on your firewall??

TwinTurbo 03-05-2004 08:32 PM

Me thinks those little wire separators should mount on a bracket ;) :D

toytruck 03-05-2004 09:40 PM

Run a new Battery cable size ground from the starter to the frame.

mike reeh 03-05-2004 10:26 PM

since we're nitpicking, who puts PCV on the passenger side? guh-heyyy :)

mike

bigblock73 03-05-2004 10:28 PM

Is that a small twig or leaf jammed under the spark plug wires? :p

why not just bolt it to the head where its supposed to go? there are enough wires going to the starter to begin with, doesnt make much sense to add more. besides, grounding it to the starter, all you're really doing is grounding it TO the block THROUGH the starter.

Tim, it looks as if your assumtion is correct in the pic you posted.

I do, cuz I have my Fresh Air thing on the drivers side, AND my PCV Port is on the passenger side of my carb...

No, a piece of sandpaper. Hahaha, my dad put it there when the firewall rusted a hole around the heater core, and since this was HIS truck and he died, I WILL NOT remove that jerry-rig fix. Sorta, keeping his touch on the truck. :flag:

Well Gee. You got this big pos batt. cable going to the starter wouldn't you want a nice big ground cable there too. Makes your starter roll over alot better.

ocbaud 03-06-2004 03:00 AM

where should i run my ground strap since i have alum. heads?

toytruck 03-06-2004 03:06 AM

electricity still flows through alum.

PHOENIX 03-08-2004 06:05 PM

Damn all them comments had me rolling.
BTW: Did you get the strap installed?

Mine looks pretty nasty from all the oil that has leaked on it in the past. Can you buy them new from the dealer? Are there different lengths? How much do they cost?

I got a new one from Napa Auto Parts for $6, they had 12", and 18" lengths...trust me, GET THE 12"!

since when the starter is bolted to the engine, the entire mounting face of the starter is its ground, you're just as well off to put it where it belongs. you're not going to get any noticable gains by putting it directly on the starter. not to mention making the starter easier to remove/replace in the future, and routing the cables is 100x easier. ever had to replace your positive cable? its a b!tch to say the least.

True...Aluminum conducts electricity much better than steel, most over-head power lines are aluminum.

I thought it was a piece of a roofing shingle.:p

A good heavy flat braided ground strap from the frame to one of the bell housing bolts will work better than using an insulated cable & having it melt against the headers...corn

The Dude 03-09-2004 12:08 AM

so did the ground strap fix your problem?

Didn't seem to make a difference, no. But at least I know THAT'S not my problem now, so one less thing to worry about.
