found the problem!

one of the wires on the starter was touching a header tube. apparently, it was the "run" circuit of the ignition, where as the "start" circuit was still functional, hense...it running while the engine was cranking over.

i was at school when i posted that, and it was driving me nuts. little did i know, my dad read the note i left him when he came home for lunch, and had already diagnosed them problem, lol.

so, yup. she runs like a top still. just have to get a manual conversion for the choke, and pick up my wire loom tomorrow, and she *should* be good.
