I agree that we need more info... But I am thinking (if stock) the resistance wire that goes to the coil... the one with the cloth covering... is burned/pinched/damaged.
When you are cranking the engine over, with the key in crank position, the coil gets power from the starter in the yellow wire that is on the coil. As soon as you let go of the key, the yellow wire no longer has any power, and it runs off that resistor wore I mentioned (at a reduced voltage level).
