What engine & type of ignition (stock or HEI, or ?)? Also is this a new problem or you just trying to get the truck going again?
Any wiring been messed with? Hard to go on the little bit you provided. Welcome to the board!

Sounds like the ignition is wired up wrong/broken wire. If you turn the key to run, not start, does the radio come on?

I agree that we need more info... But I am thinking (if stock) the resistance wire that goes to the coil... the one with the cloth covering... is burned/pinched/damaged.
When you are cranking the engine over, with the key in crank position, the coil gets power from the starter in the yellow wire that is on the coil. As soon as you let go of the key, the yellow wire no longer has any power, and it runs off that resistor wore I mentioned (at a reduced voltage level). |
