Some GM trucks with the 5.3L had problems with the PCV's causing blow by and smoke at start up. They would also use oil excessively. GM fixed this by coming up with a fixed orifice PCV. I installed one in my truck and excessive oil usage and smoke at start up went away.

You may want to check, your truck may already have one.

I went to a GM dealer and ordered one. It was $8 or so, but you will never had to buy another PCV again (no movable parts to plug up, it's just a shell with a hole drilled in it.)
