dumb question but how new are your rubbers?
just check your gear latch if there is no wear or on the striker ya my idea wont work and about the coldness my 3 on the tree had a bunch of old grease init and one cold morning it wouldnt move until i broke it off and sported a black eye for a couple days use fluid film or a silicone spray totally water resistant and wont freeze
