Re: HEI centrifugal lubrication?
Yo! Dudes, I just couldn't stand the wait, and I'd pretty much convinced myself that any thick lube would retain dust and dirt and be a problem.
WD40 is recommended to be used to dry moisture in vehicle ignition systems, so I covered the rest of the distributor and sprayed just the centrifugal advance mechanism. Then I took a new rag and wiped all I could off of the metal, leaving just the areas that I could not get to.
Third try, I got the right mesh and the HEI dropped right back in the block.
All set with a new HEI rebuilt with my old tuned set: weights, spring combo, MSD wiring/plug, and the vacuum advance limiter. Also has my old Summit high voltage coil.
I think the light WD40 application will reduce the possibility of corrosion buildup and not retain to much dust/dirt. And I'll know to keep checking my centrifugal advance mechanism when I tune.
Thanks for the good input. I'll post if I screwed it up!
Todd.
